It might be because of the economic climate or the drought, but we had far fewer horn and tusk entries at the 2015 Midlands Branch AGM in comparison to previous years.  However, there were some really good trophies.

Roderick-Brent
Roderick Brent walked away with four floating trophies and he is seen above with Stacey van Straaten (nee Erasmus), who handed the trophies out, next to him. Measurements are listed below
Robin-English
Robin English received the floating trophies for the antelope species given below. His Common Reedbuck horns were stunning

Martin-Erasmus
Here we have father and daughter ….  Martin Erasmus and Stacey nee Erasmus.  She got married on 8 August 2015.  We wish her and Morne van Straaten all of the best for their married life together. Martin is pictured here with the trophy for his warthog tusks.  His best trophy that he entered was beautifully shaped eland horns
Walter-Kaumpeck
Walter Kaumpeck won the buffalo floating trophy, but it was his set of Nyala horns that won him the best on display trophy which he is seen with above

Chase-Robinson
We at Midlands Branch are thrilled when  Juniors submit horns or tusks because they are the future of our Association.  Chase Robinson is seen receiving the trophy for the Best Junior Bushbuck and he also was awarded the trophy for the best Bushpig tusks
Conrad-Klipp
Conrad Klipp also submitted Gemsbok horns and was awarded the  Most Unique trophy  prize due to it being a one-horned example
Musa-Ngcobo
Musa Ngcobo submitted two sets of Impala horns.  Here he is pictured holding the Impala floating trophy
Deon-Rossouw
Deon Rossouw won the Blue Wildebeest floating trophy
Johan-Odendaal
Johan Odendaal submitted a set of beautiful Gemsbok horns which earned him the trophy for the Best Bowhunter
Nel-Rossouw
The Best Junior floating trophy went to Nel Rossouw who had lovely Springbuck horns

Well done to everyone who was awarded a floating trophy, and to all the rest …. keep on hunting. It is not always about the length of the horns and the tusks. It is often just the pure enjoyment of the hunt that counts.
