JJ de Valence of Richards Bay High School “Musketeers!” had his scope set bang on target at the second league round of the South African National Shooters Union (SANSSU) on 20 February 2016 at Pionier High School in Vryheid. JJ claimed gold in the U14 Sporter Class, earning the medal after collecting 358 points out of a possible 600.
His sister Larissa, who was the only lady in this class, ended in seventh place overall in the U16 Sporter Class with 453 points of a possible 600. This was an improved performance from the young talented shooter, who scored 445 points in round one. 76 competitors from Pionier, Ferrum, Glenwood, Voortrekker and Richards Bay High Schools competed on the day. ‘I am very pleased with and proud of these results,” said coach Willem de Valence.
“JJ is only 12 years old and is already competing very well against the high school pupils in the U14 age group. He is gaining a lot of experience.” “I am very excited for this year, as our shooters are improving in every competition,” he continued. “Congratulations to Larissa and JJ on a fine achievement.” Anyone interested in target shooting in KwaZulu-Natal can contact Willem on 084 270 8343 for more information.
